ר’ אליהו בן שלמה זלמן – HaGaon Rabbi Eliyahu ben Shlomo Zalman, known as the Vilna Gaon or HaGra, b. 1720, d. 1797. Among the greatest Torah scholars of all time, he is famed for his prolific interests and commentaries on Talmud, as well as numerous other books, including commentaries on sections of the Zohar. He was considered the greatest halakhic authority of the 18th century, and to this day his interpretations are followed.
