Sister of Moses and Aaron, prophetess and leader of the Jewish people. It was she who proposed to the Pharoah’s daughter that a Hebrew nurse should be found to raise the baby in the basket. During the exodus from Egypt, Miriam was struck with leprosy, as punishment from God for her reproach of Moses. She was cured out of mercy, through Moses’s prayers. She died in the desert, blessed by God.
