מִשְׁנָה -The first compilation of the oral law, originating from Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi, circa 200 CE. Referred to in the singular form, the Mishna is the compilation itself or a particular teaching within the oral law; in the plural – Mishnayot – this refers to multiple teachings or laws of the Mishna mentioned within the daf or citation.
