water wheel

WaterWheel2These drawings of ancient water wheels are based on sketches from Rome and Alexandria, depicting a system, powered by an animal (or, in this case, a person), which draws a strong, steady stream of water for agriculture and similar needs.

WaterWheel1This ancient water wheel, which was used in the Temple, makes use of a rope and wheel system to raise the bucket containing water.

The above images were taken from the Hebrew edition of the Steinsaltz Talmud, Tractate Eruvin, pages 458 and 460.
