יִרְמְיָהוּ – Jeremiah, second of the major Nevi’im. He prophesied during Josiah’s reign as king of Judah. His life was marked by oppression and disbelief; he was cast out as a false prophet and jailed for a time. When Nebuchadnezzar ascended the throne he was released and recognized for his prophetic abilities. These trials are detailed in the eponymous book the Bible, as well as in Eikah (Lamentations).
